Halfway through the season, the Lafayette Equestrian Team is off to a fast start with three first-place finishes, as well as second- and third-place showings. The team is in the points lead for the region, and Rebekah Scharfe ’15 is the region’s individual points leader.

Scharfe (Manchester, Mass.), a mechanical engineering major, and Nicole Galano ’16 (Commack, N.Y.), a biology major, received the highest individual point totals during two separate competitions, and Dani Wolff ’17 (Morganville, N.J.), a biology major, received the second highest individual point total at another show.

Six competitors have already accumulated enough points to qualify for the regional tournament: Victoria Binz ’17 (Burlington, N.J.), a chemical engineering major; Samantha Bociulis ’17 (Mount Bethel, Pa.), a biology major; Andy Eaton ’15 (Rye, N.H.), a government and law major; Galano; Shannon Lenahan ’15 (Scotch Plains, N.J.), a biology major; and Wolff.

The team is a member of Zone 3 Region 4 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. It competes against teams from Bloomsburg, Cedar Crest, East Stroudsburg, Kutztown, Lehigh, Moravian, Rutgers, and University of Scranton. The season consists of 10 regular competitions where the team and individuals accumulate points to qualify for regional, zone, and national competitions in the spring.
