EASTON, Pa. — Senior shortstop Brooke Wensel has been named the 2019 Patriot League Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Wensel, along with fellow senior Maddie Wensel, also achieved Academic All-Patriot League status.

Brooke Wensel adds the honor to a long list of career achievements. She was an All-Patriot League Second-Team selection in her freshman and junior seasons and was tabbed as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2017.

Wensel finished her career with a .277 batting average and the eighth-most hits (150) in school history. She also ranked fifth in career at bats (542), sixth in career home runs (10), doubles (29) and games started (184), seventh for stolen bases (25), eighth in games played (184) and 10th in runs scored (79).

Academically, the Psychology major, who also has an Art minor, maintains a 3.71 cumulative GPA. Upon graduation, she plans to work with FBI agents as an operational support technician for two years, and then become a special agent.

Brooke was included on the Academic All-Patriot League Team for the third straight season while classmate Maddie achieved the honor for the second straight campaign. To be one of the 12 selected to the Academic All-Patriot League, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Maddie, who split time between catcher and first base, started 48 of 49 games in 2019 and finished with a .260 career batting average. She finished her four-year career seventh in career home runs (9), eighth in career doubles (27) and ninth in RBI (61).

A Biology major, Maddie holds a 3.84 cumulative GPA. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine or Albany Medical College.
