Shoemaker Named STATS National Freshman of the Week and Garners PL Honors

Freshman QB threw for 411 yards and ran for 134 more against Sacred Heart

EASTON, Pa. – Freshman quarterback Keegan Shoemaker has been named the STATS National Freshman Player of the Week. Shoemaker adds the national honor to his Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week nod and his second consecutive Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor.

Shoemaker racked up 545 yards of total offense in the Leopards' home opener vs. reigning NEC champion Sacred Heart on Sept. 14. He completed 24-of-35 for 411 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball 23 times for 134 yards with two more scores.

The Prosper, Texas native set a school record in total offense and his 411 passing yards are the second-most all-time at Lafayette. It marked the program's first 400-yard passing game since 2011 and Shoemaker was the first Leopard since Brad Maurer in 2004 to pass for 100 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game.

At Monmouth on Sept. 7, Shoemaker completed 20-of-32 passes (63%) for two touchdowns with one interception in his first career start that led to his first Rookie of the Week honor and honorable mention status for the Stats National Freshman of the Week. His 80-yard touchdown toss to Nick Pearson was the Leopards' longest play from scrimmage since 2007.

Shoemaker was a First-Team All-District selection at Prosper High School (6A), throwing for 4,336 yards and 39 touchdowns during his career, including 23 TDs and 2,329 yards during his senior campaign.

Lafayette gets back on the road next week, traveling to Albany for a 3:30 p.m. matchup, the first ever between the schools.
