Fall Athletic Teams Make Strides in Presidents' Cup Standings

Leopards jump six places and nearly 20 points in a calendar year

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The success of Lafayette's athletic teams in the fall championship season spurred a six-place jump in the 2019-20 Patriot League Presidents' Cup Fall standings.

League runner-up finishes in field hockey, football and men's soccer led the rise up the standings from a 10th-place finish in the fall of 2018 (16.75 points) to the fourth-place finish (tied with Army with 36.5 points).

On the men's side, the Leopards finished second with 19 points, up from 10th-place in 2018 with seven points. The Lafayette women's teams were sixth with 17.5 points, ascending from 10th with 9.75 points in 2018.

Patriot League Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on a team's performances in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving, and track and field, the points doled out based on the final team finish at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are based on regular-season standings.
