More than 1,000 people descended upon the Williams Arts Campus last week to explore Frankenstein 2029, a groundbreaking multi-venue, multi-era, multimedia-infused performance piece.

Based on Mary Shelley’s gothic novel, the production challenged both the boundaries of live performance and what it means to be human in an ever-accelerating technological world. More than 80 students, faculty, staff, and alumni fused their expertise in neuroscience, art, chemistry, computer science, engineering, English, and theater to bring the show to life.

The performance was entirely self guided, and visitors could choose how and what they viewed. They could follow a particular character like the Creature or Victor Neurotech, as actors moved among venues, or explore the venue itself, which remained “alive” after the actors left.
