Lafayette College students will give a poetry reading at noon Wednesday, Dec. 1, in the Marlo Room of the Farinon College Center. An “open mic” will follow.
Sponsored by the department of English, McKeen Hall, and The Lafayette, the College's student newspaper, the event is open to the public free of charge. Refreshments will be served.
The 15 participating students, who are pursuing a wide range of majors, are enrolled in the creative writing class of Lee Upton, an accomplished poet and critic who is a professor of English at Lafayette and the first faculty member to hold the title writer-in-residence.
It's a lively group, highly supportive of one another, Upton says.
“They challenge one another to succeed in class,” she says. “Often they're very funny. Inevitably we spend part of each class laughing, particularly at the comic dialogue that some of the students write.”
