Lafayette College music students will present their spring recitals at noon on May 1, 3, and 5 in Williams Center for the Arts room 123.
In addition to the recitals, students of Bill Melin, associate professor of music, will present electronic music for synthesizer and computer at noon Thursday, May 4, in Williams Center room 123.
The Lafayette College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Ken Brader, will perform with guest saxophone player Rick Margitza at 8 p.m. Friday, May 5 in the Williams Center.
Performances are free and open to the public. The recital schedule follows:
Monday, May 1
Clarinet players Katie Michel ’01 of St. Paul, Minn., and Felicia Turturiello ’01 (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) will play “Scherzo” by Beethoven. “Duo No. 1, op. 46” by G. Kummer will be performed by Kristin Pontoski ’03 (Willow Grove, Pa.) on flute and Annie Neumeister ’03 (Cincinnati, Ohio) on clarinet. All are students of Susan Charlton, director of wind chamber ensembles and instructor of flute.
Voice students will sing accompanied by their instructor, Judith Manley. Tenor Robert Murray ’02 (Sao Paolo, Brazil) will sing “Once Upon a Summertime” by Michel LeGrand and “Old Mother Hubbard” by Victor Hely-Hutchinson. Tenor Andrew Platt ’01 (West Chester, Pa.) will sing “Serenade” by Charles Gounod and “So Perverse” by Frank Bridge. Soprano Alison Kalaher ’01 (Mendham, N.J.) will sing “Are You the New Person” by Ned Rorem and “Flight” by Craig Carnelia. Baritone Ed Saliklis, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, will sing “Si, tra i ceppi” by Handel and “I Bless You, Forests” by Tschaikowsky.
Two piano students of Lori Dobbins, assistant professor of music, also will perform on Monday. Lauren Uhler ’02 (Bethlehem, Pa.) will play “Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush” by John Hunt and Heather Badamo ’03 (DuBois, Pa.) will play “Theme & Variations in C minor” by Andrew Platt.
Wednesday, May 3
Manley will accompany two of her students. Soprano Melissa Landon ’01 (Millerton, N.Y.) will sing “I Concentrate on You” by Cole Porter and “Nice Work if You Can Get It” by George Gershwin. Soprano Huldah Adams ’00 (Colonia, N.J.) will sing “Clair de Lune” by Gabriel Faure and “A Wink and a Smile” from the film Sleepless in Seattle.
Pianist Jeffrey Hurtado ’01 (Delran, N.J.), a student of Skip Wilkins, instructor of jazz piano, will play his own composition, “Only Good Memories.”
Charlton’s students Ryan Tobin ’03 (Pennsburg, Pa.) on flute and Cheryl LaBuz ’02 (Drums, Pa.) on piano will perform “Entr’acte” by Bizet. A quintet of Charlton’s students will perform “Quintet, op. 71 (Adagio-Allegro and Adagio)” by Beethoven, Caroline Dawson of the office of development and college relations, flute; Bri Anna Henderek ’02 (Estes Park, Colo.), oboe; Dan Kauke ’01 (Ridgewood, N.J.), clarinet, Alanna Cleary ’03 (Bloomsburg, Pa.), bassoon; and Dan Miller ’03 (East Amherst, N.Y.), horn.
An ensemble of nine students of Charlton will perform “Sinfonia & Chorale” from Cantata BWV 142 by Bach and arranged by Bruce Behnke, as well as Verdi’s “LaTraviata,” “Prelude to Act 1” (arranged by Kyril Magg), and “Greensleeves Fantasia” (arranged by Anne McGinty). The group includes flute players Nancy Berrier ’01 (Mount Laurel, N.J.), Jessica Calaman ’01 (Newville, Pa.), Kim Corbett ’01 (Clifton, N.J.), Caroline Dawson, Katherine Koskey ’02 (Easton, Pa.), Cassidy Ludlow ’03 (Groton, N.Y.), Andrew Saunders ’02 (Albion, N.Y.), and Stephanie Spence ’02 (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), and string bassist Ian Rippke ’00 (East Petersburg, Pa.).
Friday, May 5
Three piano students of Alexis Fisher, instructor of piano, will perform. John Kim ’02 (Easton, Pa.) will play “Venetian Boat Song in f# minor”, op. 30 no. 6, by Felix Mendelssohn. Arturo Pereira ’00 (Caracas, Venezuela) will perform Venetian Boat Song in g minor”, op. 19 no. 6, by Mendelssohn. Nathan Tregger ’03 (Niantic, Conn.) will perform “Sonata in f minor”, op. 57, by Beethoven.
Jennifer Tonkin ’03 (Belle Meade, N.J.) and Kelly Stewart ’02 (Carlisle, Pa.) on flute, and Kim on clarinet, who are students of Charlton, will perform “Trio,” op. 87, Allegro, by Beethoven.
Cliff Tracy, instructor of saxophone and clarinet, will accompany alto saxophonist Prajno Malla ’03 (San Francisco, Calif.) in “My Little Suede Shoes” and “Way Down Blues” by Charlie Parker. Another Tracy student, saxophonist Christopher Michaud ’03 (Millerton, N.Y.), will perform “Syeeda’s Song Flute” by John Coltrane and “Chega De Sandade” by Antonio Carlos Jobin.
Pianist Erin Vanacore ’02 (Pelham, N.Y.), a composition student of Dobbins, will perform “Angelina” by Amy Scott.
