A wide variety of Lafayette student organizations and residential living groups will join the Bailey Health Center, Career Services, Counseling Center, Dining Services, and Landis Community Outreach Center in sponsoring events and presenting information as Lafayette celebrates its sixth annual Wellness Day 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Farinon College Center.

“Wellness Day highlights the fact that wellness is more than eating and exercising,” says Cindy Adams, health promotion coordinator. “It’s that you’re a multifaceted person with many dimensions of health.” Last year, close to 1,000 people visited Wellness Day and about 250 returned evaluation forms. A $50 prize and intramural points are incentives for student participation.

Wellness Day is scheduled in connection with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week.

Throughout the week the student organization LEAD (Lafayette Education on Alcohol and Drugs) will conduct activities from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Farinon Center as follows:

Monday, Oct. 16 — Open LEAD meeting

Wednesday, Oct. 18 — “Mocktails”

Thursday, Oct. 19 – Students sign pledges to not drink and drive during the holidays. The pledges will be mailed to participants as a reminder before Thanksgiving Break

Friday, October 20, “Beer Goggles Obstacle Course”

LEAD provides educational programs to help members of the Lafayette community make responsible decisions regarding drugs and alcohol. Its week of activities kicked off Oct. 15 with a presentation called “Courage to Care” by Carolyn Cornelison, former director of special projects for the BACCHUS and GAMMA Peer Education Network.
