Since 1990, Dr. D. Bruce Panasuk '78 has built his medical practice in the Newark/Wilmington, Del. area. A thoracic surgeon at Christiana Care Health Services, he is program director of Christiana Care's general surgery residency program. Panasuk is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Jefferson Medical College and was included in “The Best Doctors in America 1998.” He has published numerous articles in medical journals and delivered more than 100 presentations on thoracic surgery.
Although Panasuk lives in Laudenberg, Pa., his hometown friends have been following his career, and have selected him for induction into the Wall Township Foundation for Excellence Hall of Fame for the year 2001.
A standout scholar and athlete at Wall High School, Wall Township, N.J., Panasuk was a National Honor Society member, Varsity Club president, football co-captain, and district wrestling champion. He went to the University of Utah, then transferred after two years to Lafayette. He earned an A.B. in biology, then attended Jefferson Medical College, where he later completed residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.
“Lafayette was a key stepping-stone in my preparation for medical school,” says Panasuk. “I transferred from a major university, and in retrospect, there were clear advantages to Lafayette's smaller size-I benefited from lots of exposure to my professors.”
Panasuk serves his community as a volunteer wrestling coach and team physician for the local middle and high schools. He has been the coordinator/teacher of a nondenominational Bible-study fellowship since 1995.
