In his junior year, Gene Kelsey ’79 was looking forward to a law career, then took a marketing course with Ed Seifried, professor of economics. “It was my first marketing course, and something clicked-it got me so excited about the field that I changed my plans,” he says.
More than 20 years into his marketing career, Kelsey has been named head of Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company’s newly formed brand strategy group as vice president and general manager. The group, which is intended to strengthen external communications efforts, will oversee advertising and promotion, events, web site development and management, and marketing for Panasonic, Technics, and Quasar products.
Since 1980, Kelsey has held positions in the company’s audio, mobile electronics, and home appliance divisions. Appointed vice president and general manager of the audio group in 1998, Kelsey directed marketing, merchandising, and new product development of Panasonic and Technics brand portable, home and car audio, and DVD products.
Kelsey, a government and law graduate, has an M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson. He and his family live in Berkeley Heights, N.J., where he volunteers as an Alumni Admissions Representative.
