An interception in the final minutes secured a thrilling 6-0 victory for the FIJI Scrappers football team in the flag football championship against Lambda Lambda last week. Easton Hall took the residence hall league football title, 16-6, after making it into the playoffs as a wildcard.
In other intramural action, the Lambda Lambda duo of Spencer Williams ’02 and Nathan Hawk ’02 completed an incredible four-year run as horseshoe champions. Other winners included: horseshoes, Pi Phi; kickball, Pi Phi and Theta Chi; and spades, Gates.
On Oct. 17 at Newlins Road Fields, the FIJI Scrappers prevailed in a defensive game whose outcome was in doubt late as Lambda Lambda neared the goal line. However, the FIJI defense held by intercepting the ball and nearly running it back for a touchdown. FIJI quarterback Alex Defeo ’03 was named game MVP. The fraternity also took third place in the Greek League with another entry in the tournament, FIJI Meat.

In the Residence Hall League, wide receiver Dave Homsher ’04 won MVP honors in the Easton Hall No Ma’am team’s win over Freedom. Sweet Jorts took third place. The kickball tournament finished this Monday on the quad, with Pi Phi outlasting Delta Gamma and Alpha Gamma Delta finishing third. On the men’s side, Theta Chi won the championship, with Phi Psi as runner-up and Zeta Psi in third place.
Williams and Hawk prevailed in horseshoes on Conway Field (between the Conway House and Alpha Gamma Delta) last week, followed by the P.T. Farinon duo of Ron Manney ’05 and Hart Feuer ’05, with Theta Chi’s Pete Vitiello ’02 and Jeff Palen ’02 finishing third. Pi Phi’s Meghan Triffitt ’02 and Olivia Kerstetter ’02 won women’s horse shoes, followed by two Tri-Delta teams: Amanda Simone ’02 and Emilie George ’02 in second place, and Meredith Sabosik ’02 and Susan Closs ’02 in third.
The Gates team of Garret Nicodemus ’04 and Ronald Hinton ’03 went undefeated in the spades tournament, held 8-11 p.m. Oct. 15-16 on the third floor of Kirby Sports Center. Colleen Sullivan ’03 and Melissa Stevens ’02 of Alpha Phi finished second, and Seth Kaufer ’02 and Jeff Palen ’02 of Theta Chi took third place.
