Students taking private lessons with Lafayette music faculty are performing recitals at noon every day this week except Thursday in Williams Center for the Arts room 123.
Performances are free and open to the public. Lunch should be brought; dessert and beverages will be provided. The recital schedule follows, including yesterday’s recitals:
Monday, Dec. 3
Brenna Ghent ’05 a flute student of Susan Charlton, will play Sonata in Eb (Allegro modesto, Sciliano) by Bach. Jennifer Cilia ’02, a violin student of Marka Young, will play Hungarian Dance #10 by Brahms. Eui Young Chon ’04 a violin student of Young, will play Concerto in a minor (Andante) by Bach. Sarah Harting ’03, a violin student of Young, will play Romance #2 by Beethoven. All of the students will by accompanied by Lorenz Maycher.
The following ensemble, comprised of Young’s students, will join her violin playing in a performance of Bass Quintet, op. 77 (Allegro con fuoco) by Dvorak: Eui Young Chon ’04, violin; Emily Fogelberg ’05, cello; Emily Green ’04, double bass; and Susan Bagley-Koyle, viola.
Tuesday, Dec. 4
Five woodwind students of Cliff Tracy also will perform. Kate Buttolph ’03, clarinet, will play Concerto No. 3 in Bb major by Stamitz. Rachel Siegel ’04, clarinet, will play Grand Duo Concertante, op. 48 (Rondo) by Weber, accompanied by Maycher. Joe Siarkowicz ’02, clarinet, will play Sonata No. 1, op. 120 by Johannes Brahms, also accompanied by Maycher. Jack Furlong ’05, baritone saxophone, will play Well You Need’nt by Monk and A Warm Breeze by Sammy Nestico, accompanied by Tracy. Chris Michaud ’03, tenor saxophone, will play Louise by Leo Robin and Richard W. Whitin, and I Remember Clifford by Benny Golson, also accompanied by Tracy.
Students of Marka Young also will perform. Nathan Tregger ’03, violin, will play Sonata in G minor (Adagio) by Bach. The following ensemble will play Flute Quartet in D major, k. 285 (Allegro) by Mozart: Brenna Ghent ’05, flute; Jennifer Langoski ’03, violin; Young, viola; and Laura Feeney ’02, cello. Another ensemble will play Quartet, op. 77 #1 (Allegro moderato) by Haydn: Tregger and Liz Dethoff ’05, violin; Lucas Girdley ’05, viola; and Lori Astheimer ’05, cello.
Wednesday, Dec. 5
The following ensemble of student flute players instructed by Susan Charlton will perform Quatour, op. 19 (Adagio molto) by Reicha and Rondo by Mouret, arranged by Sondra Tucker: Heather Badamo ’03, Kelly Stewart ’02, and Jennifer Tonkin ’03, as well as Charlton.
Four guitar students of Frank Michael Flandorffer will perform: Chris Michaud ’03, It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) by Duke Ellington, arranged by Flandorffer; Ned Allis ’02, Over the Rainbow by Harold Arlen, arranged by Flandorffer; Joseph Benoit ’04, When I Fall in Love by Victor Young, arranged by Flandorffer; and the ensemble of Allis, Benoit, and Mike Muffley ’03, Bop Duet #12 by Bugs Bower.
The following vocal students will sing while accompanied by instructor Judith Manley: Nuri Noaz ’03, soprano, Bel piacere by G. F. Handel and Pleading, op. 48, no. 1 by Edward Elgar; Jason Bowne ’02, baritone, Vergin, tutto mor by Francesco Durante and I’ve Loved These Days by Billy Joel; Rebecca Moreland ’03, soprano, Cangio d’aspetto by G. F. Handel and Sapphische Ade, op. 04, no. 4 by Johannes Brahms; and Edmond Saliklis, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, baritone, Irrlicht and Rast, both from the song cycle “Winterreise” by Franz Schubert.
Friday, Dec. 7
Four pianists instructed by Alexis Fisher will perform: Megan Coyer ’05, Venetian Boat Song, op. 30 no. 6 by Mendelssohn; Josie Dykstra ’05, L’Orage by Burgmuller; Katie Brown ’04, Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum by Debussy; and Tregger, Sonata in f minor, op. 57 by Beethoven.
In addition, Muffley and Benoit, guitar students of Flandorffer, will perform Bop Duet #6 by Bugs Bower, and Flandorffer guitar students Michaud and Allis will play Four (with variations) by Miles Davis.
