Due to the relocation of major computing service functions at Lafayette from Jan. 3-6, 2002, all servers will be taken off line 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.
Remote servers will allow the full functioning of the Admissions, Alumni and Sports web sites. To reach those sites, simply click on the respective
tabs at the top of the web page. Full web services will be restored by 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7.
Lafayette is undergoing the installation of a new, permanent computer room in Pardee Hall, a key step in the relocation of Computing Services equipment and staff from Alumni Hall of Engineering to Pardee.
There will be a complete shutdown of all Lafayette servers from 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 until 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, while data is backed up and computers are disconnected, transported, and reinstalled in the lower level of Pardee. The shutdown will include web servers, email system, Banner, and other systems.
During the shutdown, web traffic TO campus will function. Email messages sent to College addresses will be collected and held on a server and will be delivered when full service is restored.
Computing Services’ relocation to Pardee is another step in a 1 1/2-year process of computing improvements, including the installation of a campus-wide two-gigabit Ethernet replacing the old 16-megabit Token Ring system.
