The Climb, a film starring Ned Vaughn, Jason George, and Dabney Coleman, will be shown free of charge 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, 411 March St., one block away from the Gates-McKeen entrance to campus.
Free popcorn and drinks will be available. The event is sponsored by the church and Lafayette Christian Fellowship.
“The Climb tells a powerful story which will bring tears to many eyes,” notes Movieguide Magazine. “More interesting, it combines all four of Aristotle’s four basic plots — man against nature, man against man, man against God or gods, and man against himself. Furthermore, they all seem to work together seamlessly. The Climb is a first-rate production and terrific entertainment which will take audiences to new heights.”
The film focuses on Derrick Williams (George) and Michael Harris (Vaughn), two at-odds climbers given a chance to conquer Mt. Chicanagua in Chile through the sponsorship of Mack Leonard (Coleman), who uses the opportunity as publicity for his chain of retail stores. Personal, physical, and natural challenges push the two climbers to their limits.
Todd Bridges, who played Willis Jackson on the sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes” from 1978-1986, portrays a friend of Williams. Clifton Davis of the TV show “Amen!” also has a supporting role.
Rated PG, the film is directed by John Schmidt and released produced by World Wide Pictures. For more information, see www.theclimbmovie.com.
