Countless volunteer hours devoted to the fight against cancer earned Beth M. Cravitz '94 a feature spot in Pennsylvania CPA Journal as a “CPA who stands out from the crowd.”

A CPA and property controller with Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT), Cravitz was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 26. She had two mastectomies and came out of her experience with a keen desire to live a meaningful life. As a cancer survivor, she spends much of her time educating others on the importance of early cancer detection and raising money for cancer associations.

A speaker for American Cancer Society, she says, “I feel it is really important for me to share my story. Statistically, I was at low risk for breast cancer–people think it doesn't happen to someone so young. I urge them to start monthly self-examination early.”

For the third year, Cravitz is on the organizing committee for Philadelphia Race for the Cure, and she continues to help organize her company's participation in American Cancer Society's Philadelphia “Relay for Life,” a 24-hour walkathon. She prepares home-cooked meals for families staying at Ronald McDonald House while their children are hospitalized.

Cravitz credits Rosie Bukics, professor of economics and business and a CPA, with inspiring her to enter the accounting field. She plans to attend graduate school in the fall.
