Previously assistant director of admissions and a coach, Todd C. Smith '94 has been appointed director of athletics/ associate in admissions of Montclair Kimberley Academy, New Jersey's largest independent day school.
In announcing Smith's promotion, Headmaster Peter Greer noted, “Todd fully understands the important and fundamental marriage between academics and athletics, which makes him a strong choice to lead this major department.”
Prior to joining Montclair Kimberley Academy two years ago, Smith was associate dean of admissions and director of alumni relations at Blair Academy, his prep school alma mater. At Blair, he also served as varsity girl's tennis coach, leading the 1996 and 1997 teams to consecutive Prep “B” State Championships. In 1997 he established the New England Mid-Atlantic Tennis Invitational, a prep school tournament involving 16 schools from nine states. At Montclair, he previously coached boys' varsity tennis and girls' varsity soccer.
A government and law graduate and Zeta Psi fraternity president, Smith played varsity tennis and was elected team captain and MVP. He earned a master's degree in educational leadership from Lehigh University, where he was assistant men's tennis coach and directed the Patriot League tennis championships.
