NEW CLASS IS EXCELLENT
Lafayette has recruited another outstanding first-year class while being more selective in admissions than ever before. Lafayette received a record 5,504 applications, the most ever, an increase of 5.9 percent over last year and up 24 percent in the last three years. The College was also more selective than ever, accepting only 36 percent of applicants, down from 63 percent six years ago. The mean SAT score of the class is 1267, up 51 points in the last six years.

ORIENTATION PROGRAM AND ARTS PROGRAM FEATURED
Art faculty and the Williams Visual Arts Building were featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sunday Arts & Entertainment section. “In this small Pennsylvania city, art is the new industry … a college art building planted downtown unites town, gown, and artist’s smock.”
Also featured in a separate story was Lafayette’s orientation program, which requires first-year students to read a book over the summer and participate in discussion boards on the College web site to teach students to express their ideas and debate issues.
