Midnight Mountaineering, Café Night, International Extravaganza events, internationally renowned a cappella singers, a 24-hour Dance Marathon, two comedy events, film screenings, and a trip to Allentown Art Museum are the schedule of campus events this weekend.
The International Students Association’s annual Extravaganza continues 4 p.m. today with a barbecue on the Quad that will include music, dance, sports, and nargiles (water pipes). Extravaganza will continue tomorrow with wine tasting and the Grand Finale, featuring a fashion show, dances, skits, and the band Culture Shock (see related story).
Recreation Services will host its first Midnight Mountaineering event 11:30 p.m. today through 2 a.m. Saturday at the Kirby Sports Center climbing wall. Healthy food such as fresh fruit and vegetables, trail mix, and Gatorade will be provided. Climbing games such reduced lighting climbs and Add One will be played (see related article).
The 24th Annual Dance Marathon, Lafayette’s largest student-run philanthropy event, will take place 5 p.m. today through 5 p.m. tomorrow in Kamine Gymnasium, Kirby Sports Center (see related story). The event includes live entertainment, games, activities, and DJ’s throughout the night. Admission, which includes entry in raffles and a lip-synching contest, costs $2. Proceeds will go to Spring Garden Children’s Center and the Children’s Home of Easton.
Lafayette Activities Forum is screening the film Catch Me if You Can in the Farinon Center’s Limburg Theater 7 and 10 p.m. today and tomorrow, and 10 p.m. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Admission is $2 or free for students accompanied by their residence adviser.
Lafayette Arts Society will host Café Night, an evening of musical and spoken-word student performances, original student skits, and comedy 8:30 p.m. tonight in the back room of Gilbert’s. The event will mark the campus debut of two new student vocal groups, the coed group Soulfege and jazz group Quintessence. Two other student a cappella groups, Cadence and The Chorduroys, performed together at the Williams Center for the Arts last night.
A cappella group Tallis Scholars, the premier interpreters of the polyphonic music of Renaissance Europe, will perform 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Williams Center for the Arts (see related story). Dan Levy, HBO’s “Funniest College Comedian,” will present an hour of original stand-up comedy 9-10 p.m. today in the Farinon Center snack bar. He will be followed by his own comedy troupe, Jimmy’s Travelling All Stars, who will perform an hour of improvisation.
Lafayette Arts Society is sponsoring a Sunday trip to Allentown Art Museum to see its exhibition of Edward Weston photographs and the permanent collection. A van will leave the Williams Center for the Arts at 1 p.m. and return no later than 4 p.m. Those interested in going should sign up on the bulletin board opposite the Williams Center box office.
