LAFAYETTE AMONG TOP 5 PERCENT IN NATIONAL PUTNAM MATH COMPETITION
Lafayette scored among the top 5 percent of 476 schools competing in the annual Putnam Mathematical Competition, “the world’s toughest math test.” Seniors Alex Balan, Guangzi Wang, and Ed Swartz were among the top 10 percent of 3,300 competitors.

MILLER FEATURED ON HISTORY CHANNEL’S “THE MONTH THAT SAVED AMERICA”
Donald Miller, MacCracken Professor of History, is featured as an on-air scholar on The History Channel’s “April 1865: The Month That Saved America.” The documentary, which premiered April 14, examines “the most pivotal 30 days in the history of the United States.”

HUTCHINSON ’00 RECEIVES PURPLE HEART FOR INJURIES IN IRAQ
Marine First Lieutenant James Hutchinson Jr. ’00 received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor and a visit from President George Bush at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md. Hutchinson, an economics and business graduate, was injured March 27 near Nasiriyah, Iraq.

SENIORS DESIGN PARK FOR LOWER SAUCON TOWNSHIP
Fourteen seniors, guided by Stephen Kurtz, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, have been working on designs for a 48-acre park for Lower Saucon Township that would meet community needs within a set budget.

Patricia Donahue, associate professor of English and director of the College Writing Program, is one of 26 outstanding faculty members chosen from around the world as 2003-04 Carnegie Scholars by the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Wendy Hill, Rappolt Professor of Neuroscience, is among four professors in the nation to receive a 2003 James McKeen Cattell Fund Fellowship. She will research physiological systems and adaptive behaviors in birds.

BAYER ’03 FINALIST FOR NCAA POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
Women’s basketball player Jen Bayer ’03 has been named a finalist for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship by the region II selection committee. Bayer, a biology major, has been accepted to medical school at Indiana University.

BOSSERMAN ’04 CO-PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S TRACK SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF YEAR
Natalie Bosserman ’04 was named Co-Patriot League Women’s Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year April 15. A Marquis Scholar and economics and business major, Bosserman maintains a 3.58 cumulative grade point average.
