Planning for Reunion 2004 began April 11-12 at Reunion 101 in Pfenning Alumni Center. Seventy-five alumni from all ten classes with reunions next year attended. The conference gave alumni a chance to meet 14 months prior to their reunion to begin planning the marketing and fundraising activities for their class.

The event began on Friday evening with a welcome reception and dinner followed by a presentation of Lafayette memorabilia by Diane Shaw, College archivist.

Saturday began with a College update and overview by Jim Dicker ’85, vice president of development and college relations. Keynote speaker Bruce Maggin ’65, principal of H.A.M. media group, discussed current trends in marketing and advertising as well as the importance of developing the right message for each class. Maggin, former head of the ABC Multimedia Group, stressed the importance of reconnecting classmates with Lafayette through volunteering, and encouraged classes to promote College volunteer opportunities.

The main portion of the conference was spent in small groups as each class met individually to design a marketing strategy to promote Reunion ’04 to their classmates. Attendees also began to organize and develop class agent communication networks, selecting 20-25 classmates to recruit to serve as agents for the upcoming year. Each class agent is responsible for staying in contact with selected classmates throughout the time leading up to Reunion ’04. Class agents will work together with the class fund manager to promote reunion attendance, coordinate fundraising and communication efforts for the class, including the solicitation of classmates for support of the Lafayette College Annual Fund, and gather news for the class correspondent and the class web site.

The weekend received high marks from participants. One alumni attendee said, “In my opinion, the day was a tremendous success. I enjoyed every speaker, as well as the break-out sessions. The opportunity to reacquaint with fellow classmates was great and I also enjoyed meeting the staff. The breakout sessions were extremely constructive and made the work ahead of us a lot more exciting. I truly had a wonderful time.”
