The new student chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold its first group meeting 8:30 p.m. today on the second floor of Kirby Sports Center.
Free pizza will be provided at the meeting, which will feature guest speaker Harry Flaherty, FCA’s New Jersey director. All are invited to attend.
The campus FCA chapter received Student Government approval at its April 10 meeting. An earlier chapter of the group once operated at Lafayette.
The national Fellowship of Christian Athletes was incorporated by founder Don McClanen in 1954. The first year’s budget was underwritten by Branch Rickey — who helped integrate major league baseball in 1947 as president-general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers when he brought up Jackie Robinson — and other Pittsburgh businessmen. Charter members included Otto Graham, Carl Erskine, Donn Moomaw, and Rickey.
