Donald L. Miller, John Henry MacCracken Professor of History, will be featured on Chicago Public Radio’s Eight Forty-Eight program at 9:35 a.m. Central Time (10:35 Eastern Time) Monday, August 25.
He will participate in a live roundtable discussion of the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. A link to an audio tape of the program will be available Tuesday or Wednesday on the CPR website (www.wbez.org).
Miller is author of City of the Century: The Epic of Chicago and the Making of America, published in 1996 by Simon & Schuster and reissued early this year in conjunction with the release of a 4 1/2-hour PBS documentary based on the book, Chicago: City of the Century. The program premiered nationwide Jan. 13-15 in the longest-running, most-watched history series on television, American Experience.
“The story of Chicago is the story of the emergence of modern America,” says Miller, who appears in the documentary as an on-air scholar and played a key role as creative consultant in its development. “In a time of makers and dreamers, Chicago was the site of some of the greatest achievements and failures of American urban life.”
