In December 2002, Richard Wurster ’68 was named president/COO of Chitester
Management Systems. Based in Tampa, Chitester (www.chitester.com) provides consulting services and educational solutions to the design and construction industry.
Wurster was previously a partner and chief operating officer in the PEG Park Group, White Plains, N.Y. He also co-founded two engineering consulting firms, including the Nielsen-Wurster Group, and has held executive management positions in the engineering,
consulting and legal industries. A native of Rhode Island, Wurster went on from LafayetteCollege to earn an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He began his career with Turner Construction.
The University of Florida has recognized Chitester for four consecutive years as one of the 100 fastest-growing private companies in the state.
Wurster sees further growth potential in outreach to Florida’s lawyers.
“I always believe timing is everything in life,” said Wurster who, during his junior year at Lafayette suffered from nearly disastrous “timing.” Severely injured in an auto accident, he pursued his degree while undergoing 13 reconstructive surgeries.
“The college and the professors in my civil engineering discipline supported me like family,” he said, “and in large part provided me with the motivation and faith to succeed.”
