Auditions will be held today and tomorrow for Little Shop of Horrors, a College Theater production that will be presented Oct. 29-Nov. 1 on the main stage of the Williams Center for the Arts.
Four to six women and four to six men will be cast in the tuneful rock ’n’ roll spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies. Attending one of the two audition sessions, prospective cast members will sing a rock song with an R&B feel at the Williams Center Black Box. They should bring sheet music and be prepared to dance. A pianist will be provided.
The plot: Seymour, a drab and meek florist’s assistant, finds a strange small plant, takes care of it, and names it after Audrey, his secret crush. Unfortunately, the plant turns out to be a ravenous flesh-eating space alien intent on world domination.
The spoof musical had a long run Off-Broadway a couple decades ago, and has been produced by theaters big and small around the world ever since. It also was made into a movie with a cast that included Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Jim Belushi, and John Candy.
The College Theater production will be directed by Michael O’Neill, director of theater at Lafayette.
