COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAM SECURES NATIONAL STANDING
Lafayette’s bachelor of science program in computer science has received accreditation from the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, confirming its standing in the upper echelon of such programs in the country. As of a year ago, only three liberal arts colleges in the country had accredited computer science programs.

NSF AWARDS $213,610 GRANT FOR BIOENGINEERING
The National Science Foundation grant will enhance bioengineering research and classroom learning opportunities for students. Research projects will include human motion studies and radio-frequency treatment of tumors.

CLASS OF 2007 READING CITED BY TIME MAGAZINE
The summer reading assignment for Lafayette’s incoming class–Copenhagen by Michael Frayn, a play about “a fateful meeting between pioneers of the nuclear bomb”–is cited in a feature on college summer reading programs for first-year students in the June 16 issue of Time magazine.

COLLEGE CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Events are scheduled from Sept. 15 to Oct. 16 with the theme “Poder, Unidad y Diversidad: Power, Unity and Diversity.” The month will feature keynote speaker Victor Vega, associate professor of human development, Middlesex College, Edison, N.J., and an exhibition by artist Angel Suarez-Rosados. “Latinos in the Media,” on Sept. 29, will feature freelance television writer, producer, and host Tinabeth Pina ’93.

THE GRADUATES VESPERS CONCERT SET FOR DEC. 6
The annual holiday concert by Lafayette alumni is set for 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 in Colton Chapel.

CEO ABRAMS ’92 LECTURES SEPT. 23
For the opening lecture in the 2003-04 CIRCLE Entrepreneurship Series, Charles Abrams ’92, CEO, Dela, Inc. and managing principal, Ward Hill Realty Assoc., will speak on “From Lafayette to a Small Business,” 7:30 p.m., Sept. 23, in Oechsle Hall. Open to the public, the talk is the first in the series organized by Lafayette students and supported by the Hunsicker Fund.

FIELD HOCKEY CONTINUES TO RECEIVE NATIONAL KUDOS
Missy Farrand ’05 was named the Division I Player of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com after scoring game-winning overtime goals against Richmond and then ranked No. 4 Penn State last week. Jennifer Stone ’04 is currently tied for first in the nation in goals scored with nine and is third nationally in points with 18.
