FREELON ’05 INTERACTS WITH ARTISTS AT EXPERIMENTAL PRINTMAKING STUDIO

Art major Maya Freelon ’05 is gaining firsthand experience in the professional art world as an EXCEL Scholar working alongside Curlee Holton, associate professor of art and EPI director. A teaching assistant for printmaking and a resident adviser, she is a member of Association of Black Collegians and NIA women’s group.

MACDONALD ’05 ASSISTS RESEARCH ON HIP IMPLANTS

Civil engineering major Crissy MacDonald ’05 used a computer modeling system called ANSYS to make a model of the femur in order to examine implants and their effects on bone growth. She is assisting Robert Reid, visiting assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering. A member of the swimming and diving team, she is public relations chair of American Society of Civil Engineers and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

NEW EDITION OF SHULMAN’S POPULAR SOCIOLOGY TEXTBOOK RELEASED

The fifth edition of Talking Sociology by David Shulman, assistant professor of anthropology and sociology, and Gary Alan Fine, professor of sociology at Northwestern University, has been published by Allyn & Bacon. Among the students who have worked with Shulman is Brett Harvey ’04, who is researching causes and solutions to childhood obesity.

JAGER ’05, AZIMOVA ’06, AND CARSON ’06 WIN MATH CONTEST

Chemical engineering major Maria Azimova ’06, Jacob Carson ’06, and Ekaterina Jager ’05, pursuing a B.S. in electrical & computer engineering and B.A. in mathematics, were announced early this month as winners of last semester’s Team Barge Competition, sponsored by the mathematics department.

BASEBALL FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS BEGIN

Construction is underway on the baseball facilities at Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex. The resulting baseball complex, to be known as the Class of 1978 Stadium, will include 500 permanent seats with 100 chair-back seats, a press box atop the bleachers, a new public address system, renovated and enlarged dugouts, and a new backstop with netting.

MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM HEATING UP DURING COLD WINTER MONTHS

The Leopards, led by four senior starters, have enjoyed an RPI rating as high as 27 and have recorded the best non-conference record in the Patriot League.

STOMBER ’89 RECEIVES AWARD FOR SKILLMAN LIBRARY’S CHRISTY GUIDE

Skillman Library’s Guide to the Papers of Howard Chandler Christy was awarded first place in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference’s annual finding-aids competition. Project archivist Elaine McCluskey Stomber ’89, who compiled the guide, received a citation and cash award.
