Engineering students interested in gaining experience in the heavy construction industry can apply for a stipend that would pay half their summer wages. It is one of several scholarships recently announced at Lafayette.

The Casey-Beavers Heavy Construction Scholarship Fund, established in memory of William Casey ’40, supports an internship based at a summer research center, in industry, or with a faculty member conducting research. The employer is responsible for paying the other half of the wages.

The recipient must be a full-time engineering major and should have a career goal involving the heavy construction industry. This may be demonstrated by a stated intention of pursuing such a career, curriculum undertaken, or a written statement outlining the applicant’s reasons for choosing such a career. When all other factors are equal, preference is given to a student who has demonstrated financial need.

Interested students are encouraged to identify employment opportunities and submit a written application to James Schaffer, director of engineering, 308 Acopian Engineering Center, by Thursday, April 1.
