Free and open to the public, the event is sponsored by the economics and business department.

Hylan will speak on several topics, including Medicare reform and Medicaid, and offer various perspectives using basic economic principles.

Hylan has published about 50 articles and abstracts in scientific and academic journals since graduating with a bachelor of arts degree from Lafayette, where he earned honors in history and also majored in economics and business. He led the effort to expand the team from seven to 21 members, and worked with physicians, pharmacists, and Ph.D. researchers on the team to achieve high performance.

Prior to joining Pfizer, Hylan provided medical input for the Prozac global marketing strategy as a research scientist for medical affairs at Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis, Ind. In his prior positions as a senior health economist and research scientist, he contributed to increased Prozac sales by presenting health outcomes research to U.S. and European customers that resulted in positive formulary decisions in favor of Prozac.

Hylan also has been a research economist at the Institute for Public Research, The CNA Corporation, Alexandria, Va., and assistant professor of economics, department of economics, St. John Fisher College, Rochester, N.Y.

He has a master’s and Ph.D. in economics from Pennsylvania State University.
