“Lafayette prepared me well,” says Mary Stengel Austen ’86, president of Tierney Communications, who was recognized by Philadelphia Business Journal with its 40 Under 40 Award for rising stars based on their professional accomplishments and their commitment to the community. “It provided me with academic challenges, as one would expect, and allowed me to get a taste of the real world. The three most valuable lessons I have learned from Lafayette include the art of juggling a number of commitments, that common sense can be an invaluable tool, and that it is important to maintain a sense of curiosity throughout life to learn and to grow.”
