When Farhan Ahmed ’05 moved to Redmond, Wash., to work, he wasnât sure how he would stay connected with Lafayette. Ahmed — who majored in both electrical & computer engineering and mathematics — attended a telecast party for the Lehigh-Lafayette football game in 2005, and expected to attend the 2006 event.
Otherwise, he felt a little disconnected. Then he received an email from the College about its Alumni Online Community and decided to sign up.
âThe Lafayette Alumni Online Community gives me a good way to stay in touch with classmates,â says Ahmed, a software design engineer for Microsoft. âOther than this community, we really donât have access to [an alumni] database after we graduate. There are other, more informal means to keep in touch such as MySpace.com or Facebook.com. But this is a system designed just for us that provides us with an official way to contact fellow alums.â
He appreciates the valuable features that the community offers.
âI like the advanced search option where you can search for people by geographic location,â Ahmed explains. âI didnât know there were Lafayette grads in my area, but I found a few who live here.â
He also likes the class notes section, where he finds it interesting to see what alumni are up to. And he says that the community makes it easy for members to keep abreast of alumni events.
âItâs a great way to stay in touch,â he adds. âYou always want to maintain a strong relationship with the college and other grads. The Lafayette Alumni Online Community is definitely a one-stop shop to get all of the latest information you need. Youâll never miss out.â
Even if you live across the country — or across the globe.
