To say that Katie Todd ’00 has been on a roll would be quite an understatement.

Her band recently recorded its second studio CD, Make Some Time for Wasting, and had a single garner 200,000 downloads from iTunes in September while it was Featured Artist of the Week. The album was one of the top selling CDs for a week at CDBaby.com.

The group was a featured artist on XM Satellite Radio, which selected it as Best of the Unsigned, and performed on WGN-TV’s “Morning Show.” It recently headlined at House of Blues in Chicago and won the Chicago Tribune’s Chicago Metromix Rock ’n Vote contest.

Todd, however, isn’t getting too excited about her success.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past few years in this industry, it’s to never get your hopes up,” she says. “The music industry is manic really — extreme highs and lows. So, when we were told that we’d be the Featured Artist of the Week [on iTunes], of course I was thrilled. But once something big like that comes along, well, that’s when you have to work your hardest, because a lot of times that high is followed up with a lull. And that can get frustrating unless you change your outlook. My main goal is to continue writing and trying to grow to my fullest potential as a musician.”

Although the band has performed with artists such as The Wallflowers, Steve Winwood, Lifehouse, Pete Yorn, Jewel, and Five for Fighting, one of Todd’s most memorable gigs of late was at Lafayette’s Homecoming.

“I got to see some friends whom I had not seen since I graduated,” she says. “The new library looks fabulous! The whole band had fun playing that day, and we were all able to meet and chat with fellow alumni, which was a good time as well.”
