The Chorduroys came in second place among six groups at the International Championship of College A Cappella (ICCA) MidAtlantic Region quarterfinals hosted by Drexel University Jan. 28. They will move on to the semifinals at Rutgers University Saturday, March 4, where they will compete against the top two groups from the four quarterfinal rounds.
The male group also received an award for best choreography.
The Chorduroys’ repertoire includes Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay, Rockapella; Feel Like Makin’ Love, Bad Company; Sunshine, Cadence; Push, Matchbox 20; More than Words, Extreme; Everlong, Foo Fighters; Between the Bars, Elliott Smith; Hard to Say I’m Sorry, Chicago; Just a Gigalo,David Lee Roth; Alcohol, Barenaked Ladies; Lafayette Alma Mater,Walter C. Steir; Tribute,Tenacious D; Africa, Toto; and Ring the Bell of Old South College, P.P. Bliss and Parke Davis.
Recent performances include Afternoon of A Cappella, and the next campus concert will take place 10:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Colton Chapel with guest group Brandeis VoiceMale.
Lafayette jazz a cappella group Quintessence also attended the mid Atlantic ICCA quarterfinals, and Cadence, a female a cappella group, will compete at University of Rochester Saturday, Feb. 18. The first-place group of each region around the country will be chosen to compete at the national competition Saturday, April 29, at Lincoln Center in New York City.
For over a decade, The Chorduroys have been singing various numbers from rock to rap, Motown to modern, and have produced two CDs and placed fourth in last year’s ICCA Mid-Atlantic divisional tournament.
Lafayette’s mixed a cappella group, Soulfege, will perform a Valentine’s Day concert with The Dynamics of Muhlenberg College 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Farinon Center.
