As a member of numerous Lafayette boards and committees, economics and business graduate Bob Sell ’84 never quite left his alma mater.
Sell recently completed his term as Alumni Association president. He is a member of the Board of Trustees, has served on several ad hoc panels, including Lafayette’s Maroon Club, and was on the presidential search and inauguration committees for College President Dan Weiss.
“I’ve always had a special place for Lafayette, even after I graduated,” Sell says. “I just always seem to be someone who gets nominated or picked for certain committees or groups and that’s great.”
This fall, Sell will receive the George T. Woodring ’19 Volunteer of the Year Award, which honors an Alumni Association member for outstanding leadership during the previous year.
“I’m honored to even have been thought of for the award,” he says. “I don’t want it to be an end-all, though. I still feel I have a lot to do.”
After he graduated, Sell immediately was employed by Accenture, a global management consulting and technology services company in New York City, and returned to Lafayette to recruit students. He is now managing partner and chief operating officer of Accenture’s North American high-technology practice.
“The one thing about Lafayette students is that they are very well-rounded,” says Sell, “They aren’t just intellectual types with no real-world experience. They really have the ability to step into the work force.”
Sell hosts numerous Lafayette interns throughout the year, and says they do well because of their enthusiasm.
“I have always been a champion of the Lafayette student,” he says. “We produce the type of student right on par with some of the great colleges and universities in the nation.”
For Sell, staying active in the Lafayette community isn’t about receiving recognition, it’s about giving back.
“The George T. Woodring Award is a distinguished award,” he said. “And I’m looking forward to many more years at Lafayette. It’s a very exciting time.”
