Inspired by collaborating on a documentary as a Lafayette student, Superfan, Paul Germain ’04has continued to pursue his love of film.

In his most recent project, Speedy Delivery, he pays homage to David Newell, who has helped educate children across America for nearly 40 years. He has done this through the role of Mr. McFeely, the Speedy Delivery man on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” and as public relations director for Family Communications Inc., the show’s parent company.

“My wish is to entertain and educate viewers on what it takes to produce a show of high moral and cultural value, like ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,’ while giving David the praise he deserves for his unbelievable four decades of service,” Germain says. “As I desired with Superfan, I intend to respectfully and accurately depict the genuine and inspiring motivations behind this person’s character.”

Production of the film, which stresses the value of quality educational programming, is supported by a Media Studies Research Grant from Pomona College and a grant from Carnegie Mellon’s Office of the Provost.

Germain graduated last fall from Carnegie Mellon’s John Heinz III School of Business with a master’s of arts management with a concentration in theater management. He is on schedule to receive a master’s of entertainment industry management with a concentration in film through Carnegie Mellon’s program in Los Angeles next year.

“I remain grateful to the friends and mentors I collaborated with and learned from while at Lafayette,” says Germain, who majored in English and art. “I’d be remiss not to thank the incredible English and art departments, as well as the Hillel Society. I am sincerely thankful for their support, guidance, and love.”
