Students and their families will come together when Beatles tribute band Beatlemania Now brings its authentic show to Lafayette’s Family Weekend.
The group will perform 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 in Kamine Gym. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children under 18. Students are free. Those who did not reserve tickets using the Family Weekend registration form may purchase them at the door. The event is open only to Lafayette students and their families.
“Beatlemania Now was booked specifically for Family Weekend,” says Lauren Ibbotson, assistant director of student life programs. “Each year, we try to have a performance on Saturday night that students and their families can enjoy together. The Beatles’ music is popular in all age groups, so we thought it would be the perfect show!”
Touring for nearly a decade, Beatlemania Now incorporates seven costume changes, features big screen video presentation, and performs over 35 songs in a two-hour extravaganza. The show chronologically traces the Beatles’ career from the group’s 1964 U.S. debut explosion on The Ed Sullivan Show to the finale of “Let it Be” in 1970.
Band members include Scot Arch as John Lennon, John Perry as George Harrison, Eric Smith as Ringo Starr, and Richard Vacca as Paul McCartney. They perform all songs live, using 16 authentic guitars as used by the Beatles to reproduce the group’s unique look and sound.
Beatlemania Now cycles through five “scenes” of music to illustrate the major segments of the legendary British band’s career. The scenes include “The Beatle Invasion” (1964), “Where It All Began” (1961-63), “‘Help’ and Beyond – Part 1 and Part 2” (1965-66), “The Magical Years – Part 1 and Part 2” (1967), and “The Dream is Over” (1968-70).
