According to World Trade Magazine, electrical engineering graduate Angel Mendez ’82 is “a bona fide star in the supply chain world.” The publication featured him in “A Conversation with Cisco’s Angel Mendez,” which ran in the March 2007 issue.
Mendez is senior vice president of worldwide manufacturing at Cisco Systems Inc., leading a group of nearly 2,000 employees. Cisco designs, manufactures, and sells computer networking and other products relating to communications and information technology. He joined the company in 2005 after leading a turnaround at Palm (then palmOne), a manufacturer of personal digital assistants.
Last August, World Trade Magazine included Mendez in its Fabulous Fifty Plus One, which “calls attention to the broad spectrum of people, companies, and even countries that are forging the future of world trade.” He shared this honor with leading players such as Renault and Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, The Export-Import Bank of the United States, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Starbucks, Whole Foods Market, Sara Lee Corporation CEO Brenda C. Barnes, BNSF Railway, National Private Truck Council President and CEO Gary Petty, and MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics Director Yossi Sheffi.
Mendez, who came to Lafayette from Puerto Rico, previously was among 20 executives named “Corporate Elite” by Hispanic Business.
In 2003, Business 2.0 magazine included him in its list of “Dream Team All-Star Executives Any Company Would Kill For.”
