Members of Lafayette’s Arts Society will host this semester’s Progressive Dinner 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at various Arts Houses along Parsons Street.

The menu of the three-course meal will reflect this semester’s “Hawaiian Luau” theme. The dinner is free and open to all students. Space is limited, so interested students must sign up on the Arts Society bulletin board located across from the box office in the Williams Center for the Arts.

“The purpose of the Progressive Dinner is to showcase the culinary skills of the Arts Society members, while providing a fun social experience for students interested in the arts,” says Arts Society president Tim Zirkel ’08(Honey Brook, Pa.), who is pursuing B.S. degrees in mathematics and computer science. “Students will have an opportunity to try potentially new foods without the cost of going to an off-campus restaurant. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet new people in a relaxing atmosphere.”

Participants will “progress” through the five Arts Houses located on Parsons Street where the members of the Arts Society steering committee live. Beverages will be served at 626 Parsons Street. Appetizers of coconut shrimp and Hawaiian toast will be served at 624 Parsons Street. Dinner, which will be served at 641 Parsons Street, will consist of ham, sweet potato casserole, and veggie shish kabobs. The event will end with chocolate fondue and coconut cake at 623 Parsons Street.

“I enjoy the event because I get to spend the whole day with the rest of the steering committee and other members of the Arts Society,” says Zirkel. “The food is always great, but I find the sense of community to be the best part.”

Arts Society typically hosts a Progressive Dinner once per semester. This past fall, it began adding a theme for each event. English and French double major Maggie Oberrender ’07(Bridgewater, N.J.) and biology major Dustin Bednarz ’08 (Shavertown, Pa.) are coordinating this semester’s dinner.

Open to all Lafayette students, Arts Society works with the constituent organizations of the Williams Center to advance the presence of the fine and performing arts on campus. Members regularly attend performances and events and assist with program planning, promotion, and evaluation. Arts Society also sponsors, presents, and manages regular arts-related programs and activities open to all students, such as writing circles, art feedback forums, jam sessions, and student art exhibitions.
