The wrong horror movie cost Stephanie Danchak ’07 (Clarks Summit, Pa.) $24,000, but she still came away with $1,000 after answering a host of questions correctly on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”

A double major in American studies and art, Danchak appeared as a contestant on the nationally-televised game show, which aired April 30. Her parents and other family members attended the taping of “Millionaire,” hosted by Meredith Vieira.

As reported by Game Show NewsNet, Danchak started off her winnings by knowing that in ancient times, criminals could find refuge from punishment inside a church. After another easy question, the audience helped her reach the $300 level with the knowledge that the fictional character Zorro is often described as a swashbuckler.

Danchak took advantage of a “lifeline” phone call at the $8,000 level, giving the right answer, St. Louis, to the question, “While its citizens were still celebrating a World Series victory, what was named the most dangerous U.S. city overall in 2006?”

By the time she reached the $25,000 level, Danchak had answered nine questions correctly. Her downfall was not knowing that in the film Scream, the favorite “scary movie” of Drew Barrymore’s character is Halloween. That meant her winnings reverted to $1,000.
