Mitchell Wein of UBS Investment Bank has been named vice president for business affairs and treasurer.

Wein brings 20 years’ experience in investment banking work with colleges and universities around the nation. He has served as managing director of the Municipal Securities Group in the Philadelphia office of UBS Investment Bank since 2002, following 15 years of service with PNC Capital Markets.

“I am pleased that Mitchell Wein will join the College as vice president for business affairs and treasurer,” said President Daniel Weiss. “His distinguished record of success as a resource to higher education clients on a broad spectrum of finance and capital planning topics includes nearly a decade of exemplary service and guidance to Lafayette.”

During his career, Wein managed investment banking solutions for more than 35 colleges and universities. At UBS, the nation’s No. 2 ranked higher education investment banking firm, Wein expanded the practice to include a number of new clients including private colleges, universities, and state-related systems. Wein also brings extensive experience working with some of the region’s leading non-profit organizations, teaching hospitals, and governmental agencies and with developers and others in the real estate industry. In 2002, the Philadelphia Business Journal honored him with its “40 Under 40” Award as one of the region’s up-and-coming business leaders.

Wein will assume the Lafayette post July 1, succeeding Frederick J. Quivey, who is retiring after serving as vice president for business affairs and treasurer since 1991.

Wein said, “I am pleased and honored to be appointed vice president and treasurer at Lafayette. Having had the good fortune to work closely with the College’s leadership over an extended period, I recognize the many fine qualities that place Lafayette among the top liberal arts colleges in the country. I welcome the opportunity to help guide its future course as a member of the administration. I am excited about what lies ahead for Lafayette.”

Wein rose to be the manager of the Public Finance Department at PNC Capital Markets, where he helped lead the firm to a No. 1 overall ranking in Pennsylvania in concert with his personal focus on many colleges and universities across the region. As the head of its public finance business, he was also a member of the firm’s Operating Committee.

Wein joined PNC in 1987 after earning a master of science degree in public management and policy and industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He did his undergraduate work at Arizona State University, earning a bachelor of science degree in economics in 1984.

Among other community activities, he was appointed to serve on the Economic Development Committee of the Horsham Land Reuse Authority for the Willow Grove Naval Air Station.
