When Derek Pizarro ’04 received information announcing the launch of the Alumni Online Community last year, he was excited at the prospect and didn’t hesitate to join.
“I spend most of my time on the computer, so this seemed like a convenient way to stay in touch with the College,” says Pizarro, who graduated as a double major in geology and history. “Once you graduate, you can feel disconnected. Especially for someone who travels a lot.”
Class notes are a feature he particularly likes.
“Class notes allow you to see what’s going on with people you graduated with,” he says. “I posted about a trip I was taking to Hawaii and later about my engagement. As a result, two of our friends became interested in the service and signed up as well.”
As Pizarro has tried to stay in touch with the College since graduation, he’s found no easier way than the Alumni Online Community.
“I email some geology professors and my swim coach, but the best way I’ve found to stay connected with the entire College is the online community,” he says.
Pizarro hopes the community continues to grow and encourages all alumni to join.
“There are not nearly enough alumni taking advantage of it,” he says. “You can log on quickly and post photos of yourself or see what other graduates are doing. For me, it’s much more interactive then a blog or most web sites. The Alumni Online Community is easy and convenient and I expect it to continue blossoming as more alumni join.”
