Music professor also performed at Carnegie Hall last month with the Allentown Band
James Moyer, associate professor of music and director of bands, recently had two arrangements published by Alliance Publishers, Inc.
The arrangements of “Back Talk” by Harry Breuer and “The Premier” by Edward Llewellyn are for solo xylophone and concert band. Moyer performed “Back Talk” as a soloist during the 2006 season with the Allentown Band, the oldest civilian concert band in the United States.
“The Premier” was written for close friend and fellow percussionist Randy Edelman, also of the Allentown Band. It will be performed by Edelman throughout the 2007 Allentown Band season.
In the past year, in addition to these two publications, Moyer has had two articles on percussion performance published in the national music journal, School Band & Orchestra; performed in over 40 concerts; conducted percussion clinics at state music conventions in New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware; presented a seminar on composing music with the Macintosh at the National Convention for the Technology Institute for Music Educators; served as guest conductor for the “Bands in the Round” festival in Allentown; and adjudicated for a concert band festival in East Stroudsburg.
Last month, he performed with the Allentown Band at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. He will also be one of only 15 people accepted nationally to the Bob Becker Ragtime Xylophone Institute at the University of Delaware. Bob Becker is considered the world’s leading xylophone virtuoso.
Moyer holds a bachelor of music education from Susquehanna University and both a master’s and a doctorate from University of Oklahoma, where he was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, a national honor society for music. He teaches music technology at Lafayette in addition to directing the Pep and Concert Bands.
