Students are invited to test the waters of the workforce 4:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Career Fair hosted by Career Services from in the Bergathon Room of Marquis Hall.
64 employers will be in attendance at the fair. They range from big companies to non-profit organizations. “There is something at the fair for every major,” says Nanette Cooley, assistant director of employer relations in Career Services.
Employers include Air Products and Chemicals, Campbell’s Soup, Disney, Exxon Mobil, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Merrill Lynch, Procter and Gamble, and Teach for America. A full list of employers can be found on the Career Services web site. Recruiters from these firms will talk with students about internship and job opportunities available in their fields.
“This is a valuable experience for students because they can connect with employers and alumni in a personal way. They can begin to network and gain information about opportunities that they might not have known about before,” says Cooley.
At least 350 students are expected to attend the fair and a significant number of alumni are also involved with the fair as employer representatives and volunteers.
The fair kicks off the year for Career Services’ on-campus recruiting program. Many of the employers will return in October for student interviews stemming from contacts made at the fair and through other career services recruiting events.
Cooley says students attending the fair should dress professionally. They should bring numerous copies of their r�sum� and be prepared to collect business cards so they can follow up with employers accordingly.
Students are also encouraged to research the employers that they want to speak to before attending the fair and to be comfortable with their skills and experiences so they can promote themselves to the employers.
“This is a great way for students to polish their skills and to prepare for the interview process,” says Cooley.
All students are invited to attend and no prior registration is required. Cooley expressed that the fair is not just for individuals searching for jobs, but that it is also a great opportunity for those seeking internships.

These include professional advising, career search tools, internships and externships, job fairs, workshops, mock interviews, and resume and cover letter writing services.
