Michael Deane of Turner Construction Company to speak Oct. 16
Michael Deane, Operations Manager for Sustainable Construction at Turner Construction Company, will present this year’s Judith A. Resnik Memorial Lecture 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 in the Williams Center for the Arts. The lecture is open to the public.
Deane’s talk will address the current status of “green building” and approaches that can be used to increase sustainable construction. It will be focused toward students in Introduction to Engineering classes and first-year engineering students will be given seating priority.
Following 15 years of construction project management and administrative experience as both owner and construction manager, Deane joined Turner Construction Company in November 2004 as East Coast Operations Manager of the Sustainable Construction Group. His work spans both public and private sector projects and includes work with for-profit and non-profit institutions.
Deane’s responsibilities at Turner include training, green project setup, operational oversight, sales, and acting as liaison to the U.S. Green Building Council at the national and chapter levels. As a founding member and current Chair of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Green Building Council-NY Chapter and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional, Deane is deeply involved with sustainable design issues.
Turner Construction Company is also the country’s leading green builder and is committed to creating a more sustainable future.
The Resnik Memorial Lecture is named in honor of astronaut Judith A. Resnik, an electrical engineer who lost her life in the Challenger space shuttle disaster on Jan. 28, 1986. The annual lecture is sponsored by the Farber Memorial Endowment Fund created in April 1994 by a gift from the late Jack Farber ’31.
