Holiday performance will be in the Williams Center
The Concert Band will present its fall concert 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Williams Center for the Arts. The performance, which is sponsored by the music department, is free and open to the public.
The program will open with the powerful “Gavorkna Fanfare” by Jack Stamp followed by the technically demanding “Italian Girl in Algiers” by Gioachino Rossini. Three major band composers will be represented with the music of Clifton Williams, Francis McBeth, and Percy Grainger. A recent work by Tracy Behrman, “As If On Wings,” will also be performed. The concert will close with a piece from the ballet Sylvia by Leo Delibes, the “Cortege de Bacchus.”
James Moyer, associate professor of music and director of bands, says, “The Concert Band is the largest we’ve had at Lafayette in many years. Our talent level continues to grow as well as the size of the ensemble. I believe our audience will agree our hard work this year will result in a great performance.”
