Brian Thomsen ’11 creates website to help students find rides
Brian Thomsen ’11 (Concord, Mass.) has put together the website www.ridefind.net to help students from any school find rides. The website provides students with information about potential carpooling to and from home, or wherever they are heading.
Thomsen’s website serves as a modern update to the traditional rideboard. After registering, users can search for rides by their zip code, post rides of where they are traveling to, request rides to certain areas, and view maps.
Thomsen designed the website to help students from any school. In order to register for the service, you must have a “.edu” e-mail address.
Since Thomsen enjoys making websites, Ride Find seemed like a worthwhile endeavor to him. He thought up the idea for the site during this past spring. He saw a need for some sort of virtual rideboard, particularly since first-years like himself are not able to have cars on campus.
“I thought the website would be a useful way for people to find rides home,” explains Thomsen. “We know people come from the same areas, but sometimes it is hard to find them. This website should make that process easier.”
Thomsen also stressed that carpooling with other people is a more efficient way of getting home because it uses less gas and saves money.
