Students, alumni, and friends of the College are invited to take advantage of a discount, meet cast members, and watch David Williams ’60 in The Pirates of Penzance next weekend in Washington, D.C. Williams portrays the Sergeant of Police, one of the lead roles.
The Washington Savoyards are presenting Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera Feb. 23-March 9 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street, NE. The company will offer customers a 25% discount if they mention Lafayette College when buying tickets for the 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1 performance or the Sunday, March 2 matinee at 2:30 p.m. Any student with ID can get in for $10 one hour before performances if tickets are available at the box office.
Williams will be available after the show to greet alumni in the lobby and introduce other cast members. Those wanting to spend more time in the nation’s capital may want to watch the Lafayette men’s basketball team take on American University the afternoon of March 1.
Having portrayed numerous Gilbert and Sullivan characters and 15 Washington Savoyards productions since 1998, Williams returns to his first role in Pirates of Penzance. Since retiring from a career as an international journalist and diplomat, Williams has performed in more than 60 productions throughout the Washington area. His recent Washington Savoyards credits include Patience and The Merry Widow from the 2007 season. In addition to six seasons with Washington Concert Opera, Williams has performed with Opera International, Opera Theater of Northern Virginia, Vienna Light Opera, and Victorian Lyric Opera.
