Stephen H. Konya ’96 organizes Chi Phi golf outing for Reunion Weekend – by Lesley Kline ’09
It is one thing to read about alumni in publications, but it is even better to hear about their successes in person, says Stephen H. Konya ’96. He believes attending Reunion Weekend is a great way to catch up with friends whom you may not have seen since graduation.
- Online registration and extensive information on Reunion Weekend are available on the Reunion web site. The deadline to register without an additional charge is Thursday, May 1.
Konya was elected Reunion class chair during his class’ fifth Reunion. He began getting involved as a student. “I was pleasantly surprised to see how alumni from all class years remained active and participating members of the Lafayette family–something you lose sight of as a student–and wanted to help foster this sense of family with my own classmates,” he says.
Konya also is organizer of the golf outing being held at this year’s Reunion for his fraternity, Chi Phi. Last year’s Chi Phi “mini-reunion,” which included a golf outing and a barbeque at the group’s old house, is his fondest Reunion memory. According to Konya, around 100 people attended and organizers received a lot of positive feedback.
“We had alumni ranging from the Class of 1955 through 2006 and although the age differences spanned many years, the bonds of Chi Phi and Lafayette College were felt by all,” he says.
Konya encourages all to attend Reunion because there is something for everyone, including class dinners, lectures, tours of campus, and games for children. One of Konya’s classmates said at the 2006 Reunion that she was shocked at how much there was to do and at the variety of activities offered. Konya stresses the fact that the Reunions are family friendly and alumni will be surprised at how fast the weekend goes by.
