He is author of Binge: Campus Life in an Age of Disconnection and Excess
Barrett Seaman, author of Binge: Campus Life in an Age of Disconnection and Excess, will give a free, public talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Colton Chapel.
The talk will be followed by a discussion led by President Daniel H. Weiss and including a panel made up of Kevin Worthen, dean of students; Tim Silvestri, Coordinator of drug and alcohol services in the College’s counseling center; Lisa Gabel, assistant professor of psychology; and Alan Childs, professor of psychology.
Among the discussion topics will be the Amethyst Initiative, the personal consequences and second-hand effects of alcohol use and abuse, and date rape. Launched in July, the Amethyst Initiative is an effort of college and university presidents to call upon elected officials to weigh the consequences of current alcohol policies and to invite new ideas on how best to prepare young adults to make responsible decisions about alcohol use.
