The College’s two current Technology Clinics will present their biannual reports next week. The urban ecology group will present its final report at 5 p.m. Dec 4 in room 104 of Kirby Hall, and the group working with the Nurture Nature Foundation will give its mid-project report at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Gold Room of the Eastonian, 140 Northampton Street.
Tech Clinic is a hands-on course founded in 1986 that brings together students from different majors to help solve real-world problems of a business, non-profit organization, or government body.
The urban ecology team is working with the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership. The team has concentrated its efforts on Easton’s West Ward in relation to the neighboring escarpment and the Lehigh River. Among its proposals is the establishment of an Urban Ecology Center.
Students working on the project are: English major Sean Gerrity ’09 (Cranford, N.J.), international affairs major Stefanie Wnuck ’10 (South Windsor, Conn.), electrical and computer engineering major Mike Cuomo ’09 (Wyckoff, N.J.), art major James Castelluccio ’09 (Stamford, Conn.), geology and English double major Alysia LeComte ’10 (Greenwich, Conn.), and economics and business major Angela Pflug ’10 (Berkeley Heights, N.J.). Advising the team are Dan Bauer, professor of anthropology and sociology, and William Dohe, head of R+D Architecture in Easton.
The second team is working with the Nurture Nature Foundation to develop a strategy to engage the Easton community and the College with issues surrounding floods. The team is developing a number of exhibits, video games, and a documentary.
The students involved in this project are: anthropology and sociology major Amanda Berger ’09 (Parkland, Fla.), history major Sarah Reddan ’09 (Monroe Township, N.J.), civil engineering major Andrew Baldridge ’10 (Oreland, Pa.), biology major Julie Pollack ’11 (Scarsdale, N.Y.), economics & business and psychology double major Julia Sorkin ’09 (Whippany, N.J.), and history and government and law major Mark Panny ’10 (West Cape May, N.J.). The faculty advisers are Bauer and Dru Germanoski, VanArtsdalen Professor and head of geology and environmental geosciences.
