College teams earn three of four top places
A team of three Lafayette students earned first place in the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges Math Contest held this month at Moravian College. Lafayette teams earned three of the top four places.
Finishing first in the 19th annual event were math majors Chencong Bao ’11 (Shanghai, China) and Shiliang Cui ’09 (Shanghai, China) and physics major Peiyuan Mao ’11 (Yangzhou Jiangsu Province, China).
In third place were chemical engineering major Shuang Zhao ’11 (Taiyuan, China), Jiaqi Li ’12 (Jing Zhou, China), and Miao Wang ’12 (Cheng De He Bei, China)
Taking fourth place were mathematics-economics major Qi Sun ’11 (Shenyang, China), math major Zhukan Ding ’11 (Nanjing, China), and physics major Shelvean Kapita ’10 (Harare, Zimbabwe).
The contest is open to students from Lafayette, Moravian, Lehigh University, Muhlenberg College, Cedar Crest College, and DeSales University. The two highest-scoring teams will be awarded prizes at the Moravian Student Mathematics Conference on Feb. 21.
